BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. An event dedicated to Youm-e-Istehsal ("The Day of Exploitation") was held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Azerbaijan in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Trend's correspondent reports from the event.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, government institutions, academic circles, civil society and media organizations.
The meeting featured discussions on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, currently under Indian administration, as well as expressions of solidarity with its residents.
Participants emphasized the importance of promoting peace, justice and respect for international law, as well as the need for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
The program also included an exchange of views on regional peace, stability and the humanitarian agenda, as well as discussions on the role of dialogue and international cooperation in addressing existing challenges.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Pakistan Gasim Mohiuddin said expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for consistent support of Islamabad's position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir on the international platforms.
"The government of Pakistan and I personally, as well as every Pakistani, are deeply grateful to Azerbaijan for its constant support at all international platforms, as well as at the bilateral level, at the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. We highly appreciate this principled position, which calls for an end to the illegal occupation of the territories of Jammu and Kashmir by India. We are sincerely grateful for this," the ambassador said.
According to the diplomat, Pakistan will continue to provide diplomatic and moral support to the residents of the territory of Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He also urged the international community to pay more attention to the humanitarian component of the conflict.
"This is not only a political issue, but also a humanitarian one. People's lives and their human dignity are at stake," he said, calling on media representatives to cover the situation more widely.
During the event the message of Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari was read by Sara Ijaz, Deputy Head of Pakistan's Diplomatic Mission to Azerbaijan. In his message President Zardari pointed to the country's unwavering position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Pakistan remains steadfast in its moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, illegally occupied by India. We will continue to raise this issue at all international fora until the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir is resolved in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people," the message noted.
The message also pointed out that Pakistan views India's decision of August 5, 2019, to revoke the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir as a unilateral and illegal step.
According to the President, these measures did not change the internationally recognized status of the territory. He called on the international community, including the United Nations, to intensify efforts to resolve the issue peacefully.
